Doi Suthep Mountain Motorbike Roadtrip
I flew up to Chaing Mai for the weekend to visit a friend but she had some work to do on Saturday before we could hang out. So I rented a motorbike and decided to drive up into the mountains to explore. I had never on Doi Suthep before so I had some coffee and a cookie and headed out up the mountain. I didn’t make a real plan, I just wanted to explore. About 20 minutes up the mountain there was a nice viewpoint that overlooked all of Chaing Mai city. I stopped there to get some pics of the view and found a street vendor selling some really delicious Moo Ping. The area was still too close to the airport to launch the drone so I continued onward and found another smaller overlook where I could take off from. I was able to get some cool shots looking downward of all the curves and bends in the road up the mountain.
As I was driving on I saw some signs for a small Hmong village that was about 30 minutes ahead. I had learned about the Hmong people from my friend Mai Xer a few years ago so I thought it would be cool to check out. The village was small and very inviting. There was narrow alleyways lined with shops and markets. There was a woman selling wine who spoke very good english and offered me some samples of locally made wine. I chatted with her for awhile and ended up buying a few bottles. I took off my drone again to get some aerial shots of the village and this got the attention of all the local kids playing nearby. They were fascinated and I flew the drone low so they could see. I ended my time in the village with some delicious Khao Soi. It was a good overcast day and I managed to make it the whole day with no rain!
